UNFPA Mozambique Cyclone Chido Flash Update #2
Cyclone Chido struck Cabo Delgado and Nampula provinces in northern Mozambique on December 15, 2024, resulting in 120 deaths and 868 injuries. The cyclone affected an estimated 453,970 people, with Cabo Delgado and Nampula accounting for 98% of the total affected population. Preliminary findings from Multi-Sectoral Initial Rapid Assessments reveal extensive destruction, with 95% of houses, 73% of schools, 62% of farmlands, 55% of markets, and 44% of health care facilities affected.
