Working together with the World Food Program

After several months of discussions and meetings, the Periperi Partners CERED/DMGRC (Centre d’Etudes et de Recherches Economiques pour le Développement / Département Multidisciplinaire en Gestion des Risques et des Catastrophes - Center of Economic Studies and Research for Devopement / Multidisciplinary Department of Disaster and Risk Management), based at the University of Antananarivo, Madagascar, signed an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the WFP (World Food Program) which is aimed at enhancing collaboration for the development of Madagascar through the NEPAD Africa Resilience Coordination Hub (ARCH) Program.

The NEPAD ARCH program seeks to enhance local capacity, build resilience and contribute to transforming the livelihoods of smallholder rural producers through asset creation, protection and promotion. A major focus of this will be strengthening capabilities to better prepare for and reduce the impact of shocks, including through asset creation and infrastructure development at the community level. Partners at the University of Antanarivo will work together with local communities and institutions such as the NGOs, local govermnet agencies, the National Bureau of Disaster Risk Management, as well as officials within the Prime Minister’s Office to see the program implemented with the development dimension.
