Makere University’s Department of Community Health and Behavioural Studies offers a variety of activities concerned with public health issues which include tertiary education programmes, professional short courses, research, government coordinated initiatives and service projects to numerous communities. The department undertakes various researches in the areas of population and reproductive health, and health care services in emergencies. The partners also serve as a consultant for the Ugandan Government as well as the institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp.

Department of Community Health and Behavioural Sciences (CHBS)

The Department of Community Health and Behavioural Sciences facilitates various courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of:

  • Primary Health Care
  • Family and Reproductive Health including Maternal and Child Health/Family Planning), Adolescent Health
  • Health Care and Health Services Organisation in Emergencies
  • Social and Behavioural Determinants of Health and Qualitative Research Methods

The department undertakes various researches in the areas of population and reproductive health and health care and services in emergencies. The department has been involved in running short courses for personnel UN agencies, NGOs and those in government ministries involved in emergency response.

The Department of Community Health and Behavioural Sciences facilitates various courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of environmental health science, public health and nutrition. Recently a new masters programme has been launched which focuses upon disaster risk management and public health:

The school offers short courses that are designed for both personne l in emergency response related institutions as well as for medical students undertaking undergraduate Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Dentistry and Bachelor of Science in Nursing.These have included;
